A UK survey done in 2022 found that 75% of small business owners pivoted from their original business plans. Almost half hadn’t met their short-term goals, which meant that going in a new direction was necessary.

With that said, it’s very likely that you’re an entrepreneur who’s had to switch things up – such as your address, or the people involved in your business. In many cases, the government will want to know about these changes, which means you’ll have to fill out several forms.

For example, you may have to deal with IRS Form 8822-B. What is it, and when would you have to submit one? Read on to find out.

What Is IRS Form 8822-B?

IRS Form 8822-B is a form businesses must fill out if you’ve changed the address or responsible party, and it’s different from the original information on your SS-4 application (form for obtaining an employer identification number (EIN)). This is in regards to a change in either your business mailing address or location.

Also, the “responsible party” is anyone who has control over the company’s finances. Typically, this is an owner, partner, principal offer, or grantor.

Do note that if you make the above changes, you must fill out and send Form 8822-B within 60 days.

First, check the box at the top if you’re a tax-exempt business. Next, check the boxes that apply to the changes that are occurring.

The middle section requires you to fill out details such as:
