As of 2024, Oklahoma ranks ninth in the nation in terms of gross domestic product (GDP). The state also has a very low cost of living, which makes it doubly attractive.

A move to Oklahoma may not be in the cards, but that doesn’t mean you can’t set up a business here. Because the state’s GDP is higher than the rest of the country, this makes it an excellent place to be an entrepreneur.

If you’re now interested in being a small business owner here, then read on. We’ll teach you how to do an Oklahoma business entity search so you get the perfect brand name.

In most states, the Secretary of State is responsible for business registrations and other related issues. This is the case for Oklahoma too.

To start, you’ll go to the Oklahoma Secretary of State’s website. Under “Business services,” select “Corp search.” This will bring you to a page that lets you search corporation entities.

You can’t go wrong here, as you only have one box called “entity name.” You can type in the company name, then click on “search” if you want.

You also have the option of clicking on “advanced search.” If you do, you can search by filing numbers, active businesses, name availability, banks, churches, domestic cooperatives, registered agents, or names of people. In addition, you can click on “search all” to cast a wider net.

Regardless of which option you use for your OK SOS business search, the next page will show you any potentially matches. You’ll see the names, filing numbers, entity types, registered agents, name types, and statuses.

Want to find out more? Then click on the filing number. This will bring up additional information, such as corp type, jurisdiction, formation date, and the registered agent’s details.

Use a Search Engine

A rudimentary way to do an Oklahoma business search is to use your preferred search engine. Put in the business name you want in addition to “Oklahoma.” If relevant, input a city name too.

Browse the pages that come up to see if there are names similar or identical to yours. Be sure to check out social media pages and domain names as well, as you’ll probably want to reserve these. Think about doing so immediately if they’re free; this will prevent others from snatching them up, especially if they’re clever names.
