How to Do a Utah Business Entity Search

Utah Business Entity Search

Utah may be known as the Mormon State, but it’s so much more than that. In fact, it ranks first in economy and fiscal stability, which puts it in an entrepreneurial spotlight.

If you’ve wanted to spread your wings and try your luck at business somewhere new, then there’s no better place to do it than in Utah. To get set up though, you’ll first need a unique company name, which can be done through a Utah business entity search.

Not sure how to do one? Then keep reading. We’ll give you all the necessary details.

Check the Utah Secretary of State Website

Using the UT SOS business search function is extremely easy. Type in the possible name in the “Business name” bar, then hit “Search.”

If there are results for your Utah business search, you’ll see the name, status, type, city, and details. To find out more about the specific company, click on the link for “Details.” It’ll give you information such as the address, registered agent, registered agent address, and more.

This webpage lets you search by entity number and executive name as well. The former can be useful since some businesses use a “doing business as” (DBA) name. To do the latter, you’ll need the name(s) of the executives in the company, and you’ll have to pay a $3 processing fee too.

If you’re struggling, there’s a tab labeled “Search hints.” This info may help you narrow things down further.

Another tool that’s simple to use is the Utah Trademark Manager. You should perform a search here too, as it’ll enable you to double-check if a company name is truly free.

Here, you’ll input a keyword, then choose a status in the dropdown menu (active or expired). Other fields include “Registered by” and “License number.”

Once you’re certain your business name isn’t taken, you can get started on forming a company. Use our business registration service if you don’t want to deal with paperwork and want it done fast. Our experts will handle everything, and then upload everything to an easy-to-use dashboard.

A Utah business entity search isn’t tough to carry out, and it’s something important to do before you start a business. If you try to register a company name that’s too similar or even identical to another’s, you’ll get tangled up in legal troubles.

So do yourself a favor and do a Utah LLC lookup. Having peace of mind and confidence about your entity name will help you sleep better at night.
