How to Do a Wyoming Business Entity Search

Wyoming Business Entity Search

Wyoming might sound like a strange state for business; typically, you’d look to larger ones with major metropolitan areas, such as California or New York. But if you dig into things, you’ll realize that from 2019-2024, Wyoming’s business growth rate was 3.6%, which places it 8th in the nation.

Even though Wyoming has huge promise, that doesn’t mean you should just go into business blindly. You have to still carefully strategize, and part of that is choosing a good company name.

In this article, we’ll show you how to do a Wyoming business entity search so you’re confident about registering your desired business name.

Entrepreneurs register their businesses with the Wyoming Secretary of State (SOS), which means they have a database you can use at your disposal.

To do a WY SOS business search, go to the Business Center page on their website. It’s a very intuitive search tool since it has a simple layout.

All you have to do is type in the filing name of the business, and select “starts with” or “contains.” You can also try a filing ID, which should be in the format of XXXX-XXXXXXXXX. Either way, after you’ve typed in the details, click on “Search.”

If there are similar names to the one you want, the next page will show you the results. In addition to the entities’ names, you’ll see the statuses, standings, and when they were filed.

Click on a company name if you want to find out more about it. You’ll get to see things like type, sub type, inactive date, term of duration, principal office, mailing address, registered agent, history, and public notes.

Check With Google

An unofficial way to do a Wyoming business search is to use a search engine. Go to Google and type in the business name you want, as well as “Wyoming” and a city name if you want to be more specific.

Check out the results, and don’t be afraid to try different word combinations. Also, take a look at social media accounts and domain names. This can be a great opportunity to reserve them if they’re free.
