How much does it cost to form an LLC in Alaska?
The Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing charges $250 to file Articles of Organization. Only Massachusetts, Nevada, Texas and Tennessee charge more to form an LLC. The initial report that follows formation is free.
Alaska also requires a state business license for the privilege of engaging in business in Alaska. The license costs $50 for one year or $100 for two, and the application asks for the LLC’s Alaska entity number, so it comes after formation.
Our walkthrough on how to file articles of organization in Alaska covers the form field by field.
How much does an Alaska LLC cost every year?
An Alaska LLC files a $100 biennial report due 2 January every two years. The year follows the year of formation: an LLC formed in an even year files in even years, and one formed in an odd year files in odd years. Filing opens on 2 October of the year before.
The business license runs on the calendar year and expires on 31 December. Renewing it for one year at $50 or for two years at $100 brings the combined recurring cost to about $100 a year.
What does an Alaska LLC cost over the first three years?
The table below adds up the state fees an Alaska LLC pays in its first three years, using the minimum amounts Alaska charges. The second column adds the BusinessAnywhere registered agent service, which is free for the first year and $147 a year after that.
| Year | State fees only | With a registered agent service |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | $300 | $300 |
| Year 2 | $50 | $197 |
| Year 3 | $150 | $297 |
| Three-year total | $500 | $794 |
Every year includes the $50 state business license. The biennial report is placed in year 3, because an LLC formed in an even year files in even years and an LLC formed in an odd year files in odd years, starting with the next matching 2 January.
Does Alaska charge a franchise tax or income tax on LLCs?
Alaska charges no franchise tax, no minimum entity tax and no personal income tax. Alaska also has no statewide sales tax, although some boroughs and cities levy their own.
The $50 business license is a license fee, not a tax on profit. Members of an LLC taxed as a partnership pay no Alaska tax on their share of the profit. An LLC that elects corporate treatment pays Alaska corporate income tax.
How much does a registered agent cost in Alaska?
Every Alaska LLC must name a registered agent with a physical street address in Alaska. Acting as your own agent costs nothing, but your address goes on the public record and you must be available at that address during business hours. Commercial registered agent services charge a yearly fee for the same role.
The BusinessAnywhere registered agent service is free for the first year and $147 a year after that, with every document scanned to your online dashboard the day it arrives.

Does an Alaska LLC need an EIN, and what does it cost?
An EIN costs nothing when you apply directly with the IRS. An Alaska LLC needs one to hire employees, to open a business bank account and whenever it has more than one member. US residents with an SSN or ITIN apply through the IRS online EIN application and receive the number at the end of the session.
Founders outside the United States cannot use the online tool. They apply by phone, fax or post with IRS Form SS-4, and do not need an SSN to do it. The BusinessAnywhere EIN application service handles that process for $97. Our guide on how to obtain an EIN for your LLC covers both routes.
What other Alaska LLC fees should you budget for?
These fees apply only when you need the service. They are the Alaska state charges as of October 2026.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name reservation | $25 | 120 days (form 08-559) |
| Certificate of good standing | $10 | Certificate of Compliance, online |
| Amending the articles | $25 | Articles of Amendment (08-485) |
| DBA (assumed or trade name) | $25 | Business Name Registration, 5 years; renewal $25 |
| Changing registered agent | $25 | Form 08-409 |
| Foreign LLC registration | $350 | Form 08-0497; foreign biennial report $200 |
An operating agreement carries no state fee in Alaska, and Alaska does not collect it, but every LLC should have one to set out ownership and decision rights. BusinessAnywhere sells an operating agreement template for $97.
What happens if you miss an Alaska LLC deadline?
A biennial report filed after 1 February carries a $37.50 penalty, bringing the domestic report to $137.50.
An LLC that keeps missing its reports is involuntarily dissolved. Alaska allows reinstatement only within two years of dissolution (AS 10.50.408). After that the owners must form a new LLC and pay the $250 formation fee again.
If you intend to close the business, file formally instead of letting it lapse. Our guide on how to dissolve an LLC in Alaska sets out the steps.
How does Alaska compare with other states?
Alaska is one of the more expensive states to form in and mid-range to keep. Its $250 formation fee is two and a half times the $100 national median, but the recurring cost of about $100 a year is lower than Nevada, Delaware or California.
| State | Formation fee | Yearly state fees (minimum) | What drives the cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alaska | $250 | $100 | $250 to form, $100 every two years plus $50 yearly license |
| Washington LLC cost | $180 | $70 | $180 to form, $70 annual report |
| Oregon LLC cost | $100 | $100 | $100 to form, $100 annual report |
| Wyoming LLC cost | $100 | $60 | $60 minimum license tax, no income tax |
| Nevada LLC cost | $425 | $350 | $200 business license every year |
